Don’t Let Him In, Howard Linskey: Book Review

Written by Nicole

A great thriller which will have you jumping at every noise at night… enjoy this addictive read, Don’t Let Him In by Howard Linskey.

The plot:

Eriston is a small town. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows your name – and your secrets.

Rebecca hasn’t been back in years, but she grew up in the shadow of a sinister local legend. There have always been deaths in Eriston – more than can easily be explained. People dying in their houses, behind locked doors.

Her father, Sean, had warned her of the dangers. Don’t let him in.

When Rebecca returns, she discovers that her father wasn’t willing to let the legend lie. He was on the verge of uncovering the town’s darkest truth.

Good for the chills on a holiday

Firstly, this cover – sold! The blurb – double sold!

The first couple of pages are very gripping, as you’re immediately thrown into a first-person narrative which sets you up for what you know is going to be a good thriller. The book then continues at quite the pace, and it’s one of those ones where you don’t realise you’ve read 150 pages until it’s dark outside.

I did read a small part of this at night, and little disclaimer that this book definitely has my triggers, so it did creep me out – whether others will be jumping at this like I did, who knows! I had to put it down and resume in the morning, when it was light outside and fear just doesn’t exist, apparently.

I really enjoyed how we uncovered a lot to do with the dark side of the town and the past – it could have easily been brushed under the carpet, but this exploration opened up so many different paths the book could’ve gone down.

Thrillers are my go-to genre, and I’m a bit of a detective, so I wasn’t shocked by the ending, but still thoroughly enjoyed the ride. It was very satisfying, and that perfect medium between being thriller-y and fast-paced with answers, without being done in a page!

It’s a commercial thriller – nothing over the top but good for the chills on a holiday.

I’m putting this at 4-stars; the story isn’t particularly unique, but a great one-sitting read. The ending could’ve been a little bit more shocking.
