The Sentinel Trilogy, Joshua Winning

Written by Nicole

This review does not include any spoilers of any book in The Sentinel Trilogy by Joshua Winning. You are A-Okay to read on.

This series has honestly left me in a daze. I’m struck by how a book could come together in such a way and leaves you with chills all the time.

Basically, if you come to me asking for a YA or sci-fi recommendation, you’re gonna get this. And then you’re tied in for three books. You’re welcome. Sorry definitely not sorry.

The plot of Sentinel, Book One in the Sentinel Trilogy:

What is a sentinel? A guard. A detective. A killer.

They are the world’s best kept secret – an underground society whose eternal cause is to protect the world against the dark creatures and evil forces that inhabit the night. Now sentinels are being targeted, murdered and turned as the fury of an ancient evil is unleashed once more. And when 15-year-old Nicholas Hallow’s parents are killed in a train crash, the teenager is drawn into a desperate struggle against malevolent powers.

Prepare yourself for a world of unconventional heroes, monsters, murder and magic…

GUYS. There is honestly not a dull page in this book. And then you get to the chapter ends and OH BOY IF YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE FINISHING READING AT THE END OF THE CHAPTER YOU HAVE ANOTHER THING COMING.

This is definitely one of those books where you just keep saying “30 more minutes of reading and then that’s it for today”, but we all know once you’ve said that 3 times in a row, you might as well just finish the book.

I’m a huge advocate for Joshua Winning; his writing style is top-notch, and can immerse you in a different world and have you hanging on his every word. I’ve recently reviewed another book of his, Vicious Rumer, and the feels were pretty similar. Sign me up to 20 more Joshua Winning books please.

This series is in a whole new league for sci-fi lovers

The Sentinel Trilogy is YA, which I’m not normally a fan of, but this doesn’t feel like a YA read at all. It reads with lots of conversation and short sentences, but the takeaway feelings are so much different to the YA books I’ve ever read.

It’s endless twists and turns make for such a wonderful journey; it truly is a work of art.

It’s just so thought-through and one that’s good for the imagination. From my point of view, this series is in a whole new league for sci-fi lovers. A very rich story and so SO exciting. Each book is glorious in its own right.

One thing… I basically had no nails/ cuticles by the end of this series. Thanks Winning. Appreciate that.

I ADORED this series. Honestly my type on paper/bit of me/ any other Love Island reference which can relate to how GOOD this series is.

10/10 stars. And I don’t give out a solid 10 lightly.
