An impressive legal thriller with a sinister edge, meet Eye for Eye by J. K. Franko.
The plot:
When I first met Suzie, she appeared to be a normal, happily-married woman dealing with tragedy. Then I uncovered her secrets.
But knowing what she was capable of, it became clear that if I was going to survive her, I had to play by her rules.
And, the first and most important rule is… leave no singing bones.
I had chills in my bones on the last page
You know when you finish a book and one word or phrase comes to mind to explain how you’re feeling? Mine was ‘NICE’ for this book. Thoroughly, thoroughly impressed by the first instalment of a new series.
It is a long book, and don’t get me wrong, there were a few bits where the repetition wasn’t needed, but I’m not mad. I soaked up every last word, and if it wasn’t so long, I’d love to re-read it again soon, as I’m sure, knowing the ending, it’d be a different read. This length can be off-putting for some people, but rest assured it is filled with short sentences and lots of conversation, so the pages turn surprisingly quick.
It had legal aspects, as well as purely sinister thoughts and a very clever ending. A plot twist when everything clicks to make you gasp – you won’t see it coming. I had a few questions near the end, and these were all answered. It’s a straight-forward book, but there’s just something special about the writing, the links and seeing how it all played out.
For me, Eye for Eye should’ve really been split better. The synopsis really doesn’t give you much with regard to the story, so if you’ve read the book, I’m happy to talk through this!
With a little bit of knowledge in the law, I did question the epilogue. As over in the UK, it would’ve played differently. Despite this, I had chills in my bones on the last page.
All in all, Eye for Eye is a very sinister book, in my opinion. It’s brutal, but so so so good. There is a lot of repetition and in a book of this length may make you say “get to the point”, but boooooy, when you get to the point; it’s thrilling, scary in a ‘could this actually be happening’ and a ‘wow, is this author ok?’ way. I am DIGGING IT.
I’m not sure if the second book in this series looks like my cup of tea from the excerpt in the back of Eye for Eye, but if Franko’s going along this theme of producing messed up content, he can just have my money.
A really enjoyable read – don’t let the length put you off.
