A chilling, thrilling, fulfilling book which will have you willing(ly) question your family and friends and their secrets. Meet Picture of Innocence by T. J. Stimson…
(No more rhymes, promise!)
The plot:
You love your family. You’d never let anything bad happen to them… would you?
With three children under ten, Maddie is struggling. On the outside, she’s a happy young mother, running a charity as well as a household. But inside, she’s exhausted.
She knows she’s lucky to have a support network around her. Not just her loving husband, but her family and friends too.
But is Maddie putting her trust in the right people? Because when tragedy strikes, she is certain someone has hurt her child – and everyone is a suspect, including herself…
Will leave you with chills right until the last page
I had goose bumps by the second page; such a chilling opening chapter that I was immediately sucked in.
Picture of Innocent is an incredible thriller, which jumps between modern day to ‘Lydia’, where the chapters are haunting.
I thought I’d really nailed what was going to happen and where the book was going and booooooy was I wrong. I was a bit disappointed mid-way through, thinking I’d played detective and guessed, and then had to re-read the plot-twist paragraph several times because I just couldn’t believe it.
You’re entirely blind the whole way through, and if you think you’ve guessed, I’d say to immediately change your opinion, because you probably thought the same as I did. Stimson manipulates you and I’m 100% digging it.
The plot twist and ending was fab, and I loved the journey to getting there. It had the right amount of tense moments to leave you on edge, but also how the protagonist was feeling, for you to connect with her.
There was quite a lot of detail on how journalism and the police play into these sorts of incidents, and that was a nice detail to make it seem really realistic.
A thoroughly entertaining thriller which will leave you with chills right until the last page. I’m just going to leave you with this quote from the book: “If you want a reason to be scared, look in the mirror”.
