Strangers on a Bridge, Louise Mangos: Book Review

Written by Nicole

A very good concept and well pulled off – Strangers on a Bridge by Louise Mangos…

The plot:

She should never have saved him.

When Alice Reed goes on her regular morning jog in the peaceful Swiss Alps, she never expects to save a man from suicide. But she does. And she shouldn’t have.

Adamant they have an instant connection, Manfred’s charming exterior grows darker and his obsession with Alice grows stronger.

In a country far from home, where the police don’t believe her, the locals don’t trust her and even her husband questions the truth about Manfred. Alice has nowhere to turn.

To what lengths will Alice go to protect herself and her family?

The story was completed in a fantastic way

This was a bit of a slow-burner, and the plot twist came right in the middle with not too much going on in the end, but a clever message to all readers.

I was still gripped, and Strangers on a Bridge made a change from my usual thrillers which have plot twists left, right and centre. It’s definitely written with more flavour, and the overall story sets alarm bells ringing about who we meet and the consequences.

If you’ve ever worried about being stalked, or that kind of thing really gets to you, I can imagine it’d be very scary to read. Especially with Mangos’ detailed sentences – there were parts which really put me on edge.

I wish something slightly more happened at the end, but I’m not mad. The story was completed in a fantastic way – it really makes you think about who you should trust and open up to.

It was frustrating at times, but definitely because of the experience Alice was going through, and no one really understanding. I just wanted to give the protagonist a cuddle and shout at the police.

Strangers on a Bridge gave me a taste of the Switzerland way – you could tell a lot of research went into the book and I’m tempted to take a trip.

Bookmark That approved – just don’t expect lots of plot twists, as they’re not needed for the message which Mangos is portraying. Not necessarily one to keep you awake at night, but interesting nonetheless.
