A fantastic thriller with a detailed plot, meet The Final Twist by Jeffery Deaver.
The plot:
Unique Investigator Colter Shaw is searching for the answer to his father’s final, posthumous riddle. It will lead him to evidence that will topple the secretive espionage company, BlackBridge.
He believes BlackBridge to be responsible for his father’s murder and brother’s disappearance. They can outmanoeuvre anyone, as the long trail of bodies behind them can confirm.
But they haven’t yet met Colter Shaw.
This time the stakes are huge – the fate of a nation is in Colter’s hands. He must find the solution as to why his father died – but to do that he needs to stay alive…
The Final Twist is bursting with action and twist and turns
I found this book slightly difficult to get into, as there’s quite a lot of terminology, but once you get into it, it’s an incredibly addictive read. I haven’t read Deaver’s previous books, nor the Colter Shaw Thriller series, so it was a new and fun writing style for me!
The Final Twist is bursting with action and twist and turns to keep the reader guessing (aptly named book)! Did I understand all of what was going on at the point it was happening? Absolutely not. Did that make for a fantastic reading experience? YOU BETCHA.
The plot – scarily realistic and not far-fetched, and whilst there is a lot going on, it just made sense when you had the revelations. I also really enjoyed how there were training lessons from the father, and these were embedded into the text to make actions make sense (and also learn a few tips along the way!)
I LOVED Colter Shaw, and I’m so glad there are books for me to go back to (and a teaser for the next book out in November 2021)! There are a few mentions to a previous investigation involving a cult, so that’s me buying and reading book 2 (The Goodbye Man) immediately.
It’s a little over 400 pages, but boooy did it go fast. The short chapters and gripping plot with fantastic characters and “what on earth is going to happen next” moments make those pages go so quickly you’ll get paper cuts.
I kept wondering why it was called The Final Twist and I guess you can assume. Brilliant ending.
I really enjoyed how this all played out, and whilst it isn’t the full 5-stars (only because of how many characters there were and it’s hard to picture them all), it’s a very high 4-star.
Recommend if you’re looking for an action-y thriller with a whole lotta violence and a good plot to make you think.
