The Kindness of Psychopaths, Alan Gorevan: Book Review

Written by Nicole

A fantastic, 5-star thriller which you do not want to miss… introducing The Kindness of Psychopaths by Alan Gorevan.

The plot:

When Valentina López Vázquez vanishes from her home one morning, it’s obvious that she was taken by force. What happened to her next is not so obvious.

The disappearance forces two men on a gruelling search for the truth: Barry Wall, Valentina’s frantic husband, and Joe Byrne, the nihilistic detective in charge of the investigation.

They are locked on a devastating course that will take them to places darker than they ever dreamt – places without limits…

It should definitely be on a bestseller list

I included this book in my Top Thrillers of 2020 list, and considering it’s my most-read genre, that’s saying something.

It has its gruesome moments which make you wince, but ultimately, you have alllll the twists making it unpredictable and definitely gets the heart racing.

It’s been a few months on between reading this book and writing the review, and honestly, I can remember the hype I felt when I finished reading it – I claimed it was like being on a 3/4 hour rollercoaster and being a bit peeved this hadn’t had more media reviews – it should definitely be on a bestseller list.

The characters – incredible, even though it felt like an entire manipulation (which I’m sure you can gather from the title). You’re not sure who to trust, and the smaller characters are as rich in detail as the bigger characters.

It’s a longer thriller, at 488 pages, but it goes so quickly that I was a bit sad when I finished, wishing I prolonged the reading a bit – it led me to *immediately* add more of Gorevan’s books to my list. Some chapters are shorter and others longer to get you pulled in to the plot, with a mix of blunt sentences/conversation.

Mind-blowing with so many twists, this book has my name written all over it. With a first-class plot and lots to uncover, there’s more to this book than meets the eye, and you’ll know that from the first page.

The ending is cinematic and explosive, and through Gorevan’s writing, I could imagine I was alongside the characters (even though you don’t want to be). It’s intense, and I was so engaged that I scared myself a bit because I could hear breathing (my own).

A whirlwind journey which I LOVED being on – highly, highly recommend. More, more, more Gorevan please!
