The Lion Tamer who Lost by Louise Beech is a real special book. You’ll thank me later for reviewing this one soooooo highly that you’ll have to pick it up next.
The plot:
Long ago, Andrew made a childhood wish, and kept it in a silver box. When it finally comes true, he wishes it hadn’t…
Long ago, Ben made a promise and he had a dream: to travel to Africa to volunteer at a lion reserve. When he finally makes it, it isn’t for the reasons he imagined…
Ben and Andrew keep meeting in unexpected places, and the intense relationship that develops seems to be guided by fate. Or is it?
What if the very thing that draws them together is tainted by past secrets that threatens everything?
It’s just such a beautiful book
It actually took me a few days to write this review, because I just needed to stop and take everything in. I couldn’t read anything else for two days either (shock!!!). But I’m not mad, because I needed some time to just stop, think and breathe.
In conclusion: this story is really one I’ll remember for a long time. I absolutely devoured The Lion Tamer who Lost and loved every second – it’s just such a beautiful book.
My heart was full, and I laughed and moped along with the characters. It explores LGBTQ themes and travels between Zimbabwe and England.
Exceptionally beautiful and so very well told – I pictured myself alongside the characters throughout and may – or may not – have shed a tear.
A real gem, and one that I’ll remember for years to come.
Gripping, interesting and beautifully thought through.
