If you’re looking for a fast-paced, cannot-put-this-down thriller/ dystopian, look no further than Witness X by SE Moorhead.
The plot:
She’s the only one who can access the truth…
Fourteen years ago, the police caged a notorious serial killer who abducted and butchered two victims every February. He was safe behind bars. Wasn’t he?
But then another body is discovered, and the race is on to catch the killer. Neuropsychologist Krya Sullivan fights to use a new technology that accesses the minds of the witnesses, working with the police to uncover the truth. Will Kyra discover the person behind the murders? And how far will she go to ensure justice is served?
I’m all over Witness X
This book is so addictive, I even dreamed about it (fortunately not the content and more the world – I’d inception’d myself). It is such a cool plot, threaded with horror and the speediness of a thriller – I’m all over Witness X.
When I saw the quote on the front “Silence of the Lambs meets Blade Runner”, I thought ‘impossible’ – it was either going to be amazing or not great, and Moorhead pulled it OFF.
Moorhead has just taken an idea and ran with it, not holding back on any of the details. The author is very good at transporting you to another world and making it sound believable. Even if you took away the futuristic element, I’d still rate this as an incredibly good thriller.
I found myself getting attached to the main character – she was just a likeable, smart, real woman with a feisty edge. A big part of the book focuses on family, and without giving too much away, the author is delicate at times but not so at other times.
The plot is incredibly well thought-through, and I’m eager for another book with the characters and the world.
It’s edgy and dark, incredibly tense at times and a real nail-biter. Big big recommend.
P.s I judged by the cover and loving the design.
