A fantastic nail-biting thriller which gets better with every page – Written in Blood by Chris Carter should be your next read!
The plot:
The killer: his most valuable possession has been stolen. Now he must retrieve it, at any cost.
The girl: Angela Wood wanted to teach the man a lesson. It was a bag, just like all the others. But when she opens it, the worst nightmare of her life begins.
The detective: A journal ends up on Robert Hunter’s desk. It soon becomes clear that there is a serial killer on the loose. And if Hunter can’t stop him in time, more people will die. Starting with Angela.
It’s a full on, can’t stop for anything type of read
Carter’s really one of those authors who makes you worried to go outside and Written in Blood is no different with its gnarly characters and intricate plot.
The plot is very well pulled together and has many horrifying/ gruesome paragraphs, many of which made me say ‘oh my god’ out loud. It’s well thought-through and reads highly realistic and cinematic. I could definitely imagine this as a horror movie where you’ll be hiding behind your hands.
Pages turn very, very quickly; there’s lots of conversation, and you’re mainly following Hunter, so it’s constant pace, and for about the last 100 pages, it’s a full on, can’t stop for anything type of read.
There are a few spelling mistakes, which I’m really surprised at from such a high-calibre author, but apart from this, it’s a pretty flawless thriller.
Robert Hunter is definitely my fave detective – he has a smart mind, and I really liked the personality of the side-character, Angela.
There are small references to the previous books (I haven’t read them all but I am definitely going to!). This can be read as a stand-alone, although it may tempt you into reading his other books… a solid 5/5-star thriller.
